At the end of the Dead by Daylight ninth anniversary livestream, held live from PAX East, Behaviour Interactive surprised fans with a cryptic teaser hinting at the game’s next licensed collaboration. While the stream was packed with huge reveals—including the long-awaited Five Nights at Freddy’s chapter, new Tomb Raider cosmetics, and a collaboration with The Witcher—it turns out that the most subtle announcement might have been the most exciting.

In the official roadmap image shown during the event, certain letters were mysteriously darkened. It didn’t take long for the community (thanks to @probablymish on Twitter/X) to do what they do best: investigate. Putting the letters together, fans discovered they spelled “The Ones Who Live”—the title of the recent The Walking Dead spin-off series focused on Michonne and Rick Grimes. This heavily implies that the next major chapter, set to release in July, will be based on The Walking Dead, bringing both Rick and Michonne into Dead by Daylight as playable survivors.
The theory is further backed by the roadmap itself, which clearly states that two licensed survivors will be added to the game in July, with no mention of a killer—aligning perfectly with this leak.
What Is The Walking Dead?
The Walking Dead is a massively popular post-apocalyptic franchise that began as a comic book series created by Robert Kirkman, before exploding into mainstream success through its long-running AMC television adaptation. The story follows survivors navigating a world overrun by zombies—called “walkers”—as well as the collapse of civilization and the rise of new human threats. The show ran for 11 seasons, making it one of the most iconic modern horror series.
Who Are Rick Grimes and Michonne?
Rick Grimes, originally a sheriff’s deputy, is the show’s main protagonist for most of its run. His leadership, moral dilemmas, and relationships form the heart of the series. Michonne, introduced later, is a katana-wielding survivor who becomes a key figure in the group’s survival and Rick’s eventual partner.
Their story continues in The Ones Who Live, a limited series that reunites the two characters after years apart. It explores their personal journeys and the broader world that has grown beyond the original show’s narrative.
Bringing The Walking Dead to Dead by Daylight has been a long-time wish for fans, and if the clues are to be believed, that wish is finally coming true. With Rick and Michonne on their way this July, players will soon be able to step into the shoes of two of horror’s most beloved survivors.
The collaborations with Five Nights at Freddy’s and The Witcher were also officially announced:
