In an exclusive reveal from IGN, it has been announced that two new video games based on the iconic Halloween horror franchise are currently in development. One of these games will be powered by Unreal Engine 5, promising players the chance to “relive moments from the film and play as classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror movies of all time.“
As a testament to the importance of this project, the original director of the Halloween saga, John Carpenter, is actively involved. Carpenter, a known video game enthusiast, expressed his excitement about bringing Michael Myers to life in a new medium: “As a big video game fan myself, I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers back to life in this game, and my hope is to scare you to death.” Carpenter stated.
The two games are being developed in collaboration with Compass International Pictures and Further Front, with the Unreal Engine 5 project still in its early stages. The games are being produced by Boss Team Games, a studio renowned for its work on the 2022 multiplayer game Evil Dead: The Game.
Steve Harris, CEO of Boss Team Games, shared his excitement about the project: “Everyone at Boss Team Games is a huge horror fan, and Halloween obviously holds a special place in the hearts of horror enthusiasts. Working with iconic characters like Michael Myers and building on John Carpenter’s original vision is literally a dream come true. Everyone at Boss Team is thrilled and honored to be working with Malek Akkad and John Carpenter to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience that both movie and video game fans will love.“
What is Halloween?
The Halloween franchise is a series of slasher films that began in 1978 with the release of the original movie directed by John Carpenter. The story follows Michael Myers, a masked killer who escapes from a mental institution and returns to his hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, to stalk and kill unsuspecting teenagers. The film is credited with popularizing the slasher genre and has since become one of the most enduring and influential horror franchises in cinema history.
The series has spawned numerous sequels, reboots, and spin-offs, with Michael Myers becoming an iconic figure in horror. His relentless pursuit of victims, coupled with the eerie score composed by Carpenter himself, has cemented Halloween as a cornerstone of horror cinema.
With these new video games, fans of the franchise can look forward to experiencing the terror of Halloween in a whole new way, whether through the hyper-realistic capabilities of Unreal Engine 5 or other exciting developments yet to be unveiled.
