The legendary slasher is back in full force. During San Diego Comic-Con 2025, fans of Friday the 13th were treated to a massive slate of announcements celebrating the franchise’s 45th anniversary — and yes, Jason Voorhees is officially making his long-awaited return. From a new game and film to a chilling TV series and an upcoming short, the Jason Universe is alive and ready to slash.
Last year, rights holders Horror Inc. launched the Jason Universe, promising a variety of projects spanning games, movies, immersive experiences, and merchandise. At this year’s SDCC panel, they delivered on that promise, unveiling some of the first official details of what’s to come.
🔥 “Sweet Revenge” – The First New Jason Content Drops This August
One of the biggest surprises was the reveal of Sweet Revenge, a 13-minute vignette written and directed by Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn). Described as the “centerpiece” of the anniversary campaign, the short will premiere on August 13th via the Jason Universe YouTube channel and a collaboration with Angry Orchard Hard Cider. It’s being touted as a blood-soaked throwback to the classic Friday the 13th formula — teens, woods, kills — and Nelson reportedly got emotional describing the love he poured into the project.
📺 “Crystal Lake” – The Upcoming A24/Peacock Series
Fans also got a sneak peek behind the scenes of Crystal Lake, the highly anticipated TV series produced by A24. It stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, mother of Jason, and Callum Vinson as a young Jason. The version of Pamela in this reimagining is a former singer who spirals into darkness after the death of her special needs son. The panel revealed that sets are already in use, practical effects are being emphasized, and production is underway — though no principal character footage was shown yet.
The series promises a deeper dive into the mythology of Camp Crystal Lake and the Voorhees family legacy. With Welcome to Derry showrunner Brad Caleb Kane helming the project, expectations are high.

🎮 A New Friday the 13th Game Is in Development
Yes, you read that right. A brand-new game based on the Friday the 13th IP is officially in development, confirmed by Robbie Barsamian during the panel. While no details were shared just yet, this confirms earlier rumors and speculation. Fans of the ill-fated 2017 multiplayer game are cautiously optimistic — especially after years of legal woes that shelved content and updates. This time, however, there’s hope for a proper revival under the Jason Universe banner.

🎬 A New Movie Is Also on the Way
Also confirmed was a brand-new Friday the 13th film currently in the works. No casting, crew, or plot details have been announced yet, but this will mark the first major theatrical return for Jason since Friday the 13th (2009). Given the expanded universe approach being pushed by Horror Inc., it’s possible this film may be connected to Crystal Lake or future game titles.
🎃 More Slashes Coming: Haunted Houses, Merch, and a New Mask
For horror fans attending Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, a Jason Universe haunted house will debut this year, complete with classic kills and multiple versions of Jason throughout. A new mask designed by FX legend Greg Nicotero was also shown, with Spirit Halloween set to release a retail version later this year.

🎤 A Message from the Franchise Team
Rob and Robbie Barsamian emphasized during the panel that they are listening to fans and aim to build a Jason legacy that lasts “another 45 years.” They acknowledged the need for patience and even committed to fixing mistakes along the way if anything goes wrong. “Fans love Jason,” they said, “and we’re going all in to bring him back in different ways.”
With a game, a movie, a TV series, and an immersive campaign all launching under the Jason Universe umbrella, it’s safe to say Jason Voorhees is no longer sleeping at the bottom of Crystal Lake. He’s back — and he’s bigger than ever.
