Jason Voorhees, the iconic killer from Friday the 13th, may finally be on his way to Dead by Daylight, and a recent leak from Fortnite might just be the strongest sign yet.
Fortnite Leak Sparks New Possibility
I already talked about it three months ago — that BHVR was trying to get Jason Voorhees as part of Dead by Daylight’s 10th anniversary. Now, hopes are turning more and more into reality, in fact a prominent Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR has revealed that Jason Voorhees is officially joining Fortnite in October 2025 as part of a Halloween event. While this might not seem directly connected to Dead by Daylight, it’s actually a major breakthrough. Why? Because it marks the first time Jason is appearing in a video game that’s not affiliated with the previous rights holders or bound by the notoriously tangled Friday the 13th legal disputes.
This successful licensing deal with Epic Games suggests that barriers around Jason’s use in video games might finally be loosening—paving the way for Behaviour Interactive to follow suit.

A History of Licensing Trouble
The road to getting Jason Voorhees into Dead by Daylight has always been complicated. In past interviews, Dead by Daylight’s Head of Partnerships, Mathieu Côté, acknowledged that Jason is one of the most difficult licenses to acquire. In June 2025, he told YouTuber Sawpalin that the probability of seeing Jason in the Fog is “greater than 0%,” but emphasized that the license is “very, very delicate,” due to ongoing disputes over ownership.
“Every year, someone comes out saying, ‘No, no, it’s mine,’” Côté said, referring to the chaotic rights issues surrounding the Friday the 13th franchise. The situation has led Behaviour to question whether it’s even worth pursuing.
What This Means for Dead by Daylight
While Jason’s arrival in Fortnite doesn’t confirm anything for Dead by Daylight, it sends a strong signal that the license might now be more accessible than ever before. If Epic Games could secure Jason, perhaps Behaviour Interactive could too.
With Dead by Daylight‘s Year 10 roadmap already including one more licensed chapter in November 2025 (featuring a Killer and two Survivors), Jason’s debut this year might be unlikely—but Year 11? That’s a different story.
The Ideal Chapter: Crystal Lake and Jason Voorhees
Fans have long dreamed of a Friday the 13th chapter that brings Jason Voorhees to the Fog with a Crystal Lake map. A solo killer chapter focused solely on Jason, rather than including additional survivors, would make sense and offer something unique. And with the new 2v8 mode on the horizon, Jason could even be paired with his legendary rival, Freddy Krueger, in a nostalgic slasher team-up.
The Community’s Most Wanted Killer
Jason remains one of the most consistently requested killers for Dead by Daylight. His absence from the game has always been attributed to legal red tape rather than lack of interest. Now, for the first time in years, there’s genuine hope that the wait could soon be over.
Could Jason finally come to DBD in Year 11? With his upcoming appearance in Fortnite, the dream feels closer than ever.
Stay tuned for updates as Dead by Daylight continues its journey through Year 10—and maybe, just maybe, prepares to welcome horror’s most iconic machete-wielding killer.
