Crystal Lake Gets Official Release Date: The Friday the 13th Universe Returns This Halloween
Horror fans finally have a date to mark on their calendars. Peacock has officially announced that Crystal Lake, the highly anticipated prequel series set in the world of Friday the 13th, will premiere on October 15, perfectly timed for the Halloween season.
The upcoming show will explore the origins of the legendary Camp Crystal Lake nightmare and the tragic story behind one of horror’s most iconic killers, Jason Voorhees. Developed as an “expanded prequel series,” the project represents the first official Friday the 13th production since the 2009 reboot film, ending a long silence for the beloved slasher franchise.
A New Beginning for the Friday the 13th Franchise
Produced by A24 and Peacock, Crystal Lake aims to dive deeper into the mythology of the franchise, focusing particularly on Pamela Voorhees and her son Jason before the events that turned Crystal Lake into a place of terror.
The series stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother. According to the official description, Pamela is portrayed as a woman who abandoned her dreams of becoming a singer to dedicate her life to raising her special-needs child. After suffering a devastating loss, her grief takes a dark and violent turn.
Young Jason Voorhees will be played by Callum Vinson, known to horror audiences for his work in Chucky. The first promotional images released for the series already tease a disturbing new interpretation of the future masked killer, including an early look at the makeup design for young Jason.
Brad Caleb Kane Takes Over as Showrunner
The series has had a long development journey. Originally announced in 2022, Crystal Lake was initially set to be led by Bryan Fuller, the creator behind Hannibal. However, Fuller departed the project in 2024 and was replaced by Brad Caleb Kane, whose recent work includes IT: Welcome to Derry.
Kane now leads the ambitious reboot of the franchise, which many fans hope will successfully modernize the classic slasher formula while preserving the atmosphere and brutality that made Friday the 13th a horror phenomenon.
Cast and Directors
Alongside Cardellini and Vinson, the show features a large supporting cast including William Catlett, Cameron Scoggins, Devin Kessler, Gwendolyn Sundstrom, Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch, Christopher Denham, Nancy Nagrant, and Phoenix Parnevik.
The eight-episode season will be directed by Michael Lennox, Celine Held, Logan George, and Quyen Tran.

The original Friday the 13th debuted in 1980 and became one of the most influential slasher films ever made. The franchise later expanded into multiple sequels, comics, video games, and crossover events including Freddy vs. Jason.
