A heated controversy has erupted within the Dead by Daylight community after developer Behaviour Interactive (BHVR) posted new job listings explicitly seeking specialists in Generative AI. The positions, originally described as roles requiring “hands-on experience with Generative AI tools for video, image, or content creation” (with references to platforms like Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI), sparked alarm among fans who fear that AI-generated content could soon creep into their favorite game.
The backlash was swift. Many players expressed concerns that Dead by Daylight’s unique art, atmosphere, and storytelling might be compromised if AI-generated assets were introduced into the creative process. For a live-service title that thrives on lore, horror aesthetics, and carefully crafted killers and survivors, the idea of automation replacing human artistry struck a nerve.
BHVR responded quickly to the uproar, attempting to put out the fire with an official statement:
“We have a very firm policy that prevents the inclusion of anything generated by AI in Dead by Daylight or any other game we’re working on, including marketing assets. Yes, Behaviour is exploring the use of generative AI tools to improve internal workflows – not for anything that ships in our games. But our policy isn’t changing, and this job isn’t for a role on a game team.”

Despite the reassurance, many fans remained unconvinced. The original job listing had made direct reference to image, video, and content creation, leading players to suspect that AI could still find its way into visual assets or narrative content:

Adding to the skepticism, the job description was later edited, with the controversial section removed and a bold clarification added:
“Behaviour is exploring the use of generative AI tools to improve internal workflows – not for anything that ships in our games.”
For critics, however, the timing and revisions only fueled suspicions. Was BHVR genuinely keeping AI out of Dead by Daylight, or was this damage control after community backlash?
The broader debate reflects growing anxieties across the gaming industry. As more studios experiment with AI to streamline production, many players worry about the loss of creative authenticity, job opportunities for artists, and the overall quality of the games they love.
For now, Behaviour maintains that Dead by Daylight’s content will remain AI-free — but the controversy underscores a deeper trust issue between studios and their communities in the era of generative AI.
