Dead by Daylight Fans Think Pennywise Is Finally Coming to the Fog
A new theory spreading across Reddit has sent the Dead by Daylight community into full detective mode, with many players now convinced that Pennywise could finally be on the way to the game.
The speculation exploded after fans began analyzing a blurred teaser image connected to the May 22 reveal planned by Behaviour Interactive.
According to the viral Reddit post, players noticed similarities between the current teaser campaign and the way the studio previously hinted at The Walking Dead content.
During the original Walking Dead tease, the phrase “The Ones Who Live” reportedly featured specific letters highlighted in grey, subtly revealing clues before the official announcement. Fans now believe the same strategy may be happening again.
This time, the phrase being interpreted from the blurred image is “Stop Peeking.” However, eagle-eyed users claim two letters appear intentionally different from the rest: “I” and “T.”
Naturally, that has led the community to one conclusion: IT.
The Community’s “IT” Theory Explained
The Reddit user behind the viral post said they used image-enhancing tools and contrast adjustments to test whether the lettering differences were accidental or deliberate. According to their findings, the altered letters appear intentional, mirroring the previous teaser style used by Behaviour.
If the theory turns out to be accurate, fans believe the fully revealed image on May 22 could officially confirm a crossover with It and its iconic killer clown.
The idea of Pennywise joining Dead by Daylight is far from new. For years, the character has been one of the most requested killers in the game’s history, alongside horror legends like Jason Voorhees and Candyman.
But unlike many other horror licenses, Pennywise has always carried complicated behind-the-scenes discussions regarding rights and creator involvement.
Why Fans Think Pennywise Is Actually Possible
One of the most interesting parts of the Reddit theory revolves around the licensing situation surrounding the IT franchise.
The post argues that while author Stephen King is deeply associated with the character, the modern film adaptations are ultimately controlled by Warner Bros.. The user points to the relationship between King and filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti during production of the IT movies and the upcoming Welcome to Derry series.
According to the theory, King may not necessarily need to be directly involved for Pennywise to appear in Dead by Daylight, especially if Warner Bros. approves the collaboration.
The post also references comments from Dead by Daylight creative director Mathieu Côté, who has previously suggested he prefers having original creators involved when adapting their characters into the game. Fans believe this could explain why Behaviour has avoided Stephen King properties in the past, despite community demand.
Some users even compared the situation to Hellraiser, which arrived in Dead by Daylight without major involvement from creator Clive Barker at the time.

Even without official confirmation, the theory has already sparked waves of fan concepts, mock chapter logos, custom survivor ideas, and potential map designs inspired by Derry.
Many players believe Pennywise could become one of the game’s most visually unique killers ever, thanks to his shapeshifting abilities, unsettling movement style, and iconic imagery involving red balloons and sewer tunnels.
Others remain skeptical, warning that the community may simply be reading too deeply into teaser marketing. Still, the similarities to previous Behaviour reveals have kept the conversation alive across Reddit, Discord, and YouTube.
For now, fans will have to wait until May 22 to discover whether the “IT” clues are intentional — or just another case of the Dead by Daylight community spiraling into conspiracy mode before a major reveal.
