About the 9th Anniversary Event:
The Legacy of Five Nights at Freddy’s
Today, Five Nights at Freddy’s has become a worldwide phenomenon, bringing together fans of games, movies, and books. The series has created a complex and fascinating universe, rich with mysteries and lore rooted in fear and the supernatural, attracting both nostalgic players and newcomers with each new installment.
Now, the franchise continues to evolve with both its Dead by Daylight crossover and an upcoming game releasing in June 2025.
Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Story of a Videogame Phenomenon
Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNaF) is a horror video game series that has captivated millions of fans worldwide due to its chilling story and engaging gameplay. Created by Scott Cawthon in 2014, the game achieved enormous success despite its humble beginnings. In FNaF, players take on the role of a night security guard at a restaurant featuring animatronic characters called Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a place reminiscent of the famous Chuck E. Cheese. The basic premise is that during the night, the animatronics, which appear harmless during the day, become dangerous and deadly. The player’s task is to survive for five nights by monitoring security cameras and avoiding being caught by these unsettling machines.
Scott Cawthon, the creator of Five Nights at Freddy’s, is a prime example of how passion and determination can lead to global success. Initially, Cawthon was mainly known for his work on more traditional games, but after a previous project failed, he decided to create something completely different: a horror game that used animatronic AI to build suspense. His idea came to life in FNaF, a title largely developed by Cawthon himself, with him handling animation, music, and graphics. Despite its relatively simple graphics, the tension it was able to create made it an instant success.
After the first game, released in 2014, the series quickly expanded. In 2014, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 was released, which expanded the story and gameplay mechanics. Then came Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 (2015), which took the franchise in a more narrative direction, exploring the dark history of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The fourth installment, Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 (2015), introduced a new perspective, set in a nightmare that shed light on a mysterious past event. In 2016, the series saw the release of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location, which introduced new gameplay mechanics and a new setting, taking players to a completely different place, but still connected to the world of Freddy.
Over the years, Cawthon continued to release new titles and spin-offs, such as Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator (2017) and Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted (2019), the latter venturing into virtual reality. The series also expanded into books, comics, and even a film in development, solidifying its place as one of the most influential brands in the horror genre.
In 2018, Cawthon sold the rights to the Five Nights at Freddy’s brand to Scenerio, a company that continued to expand the universe of the game. However, Scott Cawthon continued to maintain creative control over many aspects, remaining a key figure for the series’ fans.
FNAF: SECRET OF THE MIMIC
The series is far from over. A new installment of Five Nights at Freddy’s, titled Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic, is set to be released on June 13, 2025. This will be the 11th mainline entry in the FNaF series and the fourth game developed by Steel Wool Studios. Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic was first teased in August 2024 with a cryptic message: “To see the future, sometimes you need to understand the past.” The teaser focused on a character named Jackie, who also makes an appearance in the new trailer, but there’s a lot of other trouble lurking as well.
While details about the game remain scarce—there’s no Steam page yet—this clearly looks like a full-fledged Five Nights at Freddy’s experience, which, as always, means plenty of creepy moments. The player’s mission this time is to enter an abandoned warehouse to retrieve technology developed by the now-missing Edwin Murray: “a kind of prototype endoskeleton that can adapt to any costume and become any character.” That’s the Mimic, alright.
However, it might be malfunctioning, so there’s a “slim but non-zero chance” that players could suffer significant injuries while trying to retrieve it, including death or dismemberment. But don’t worry, it’ll probably be fine.
FNAF X DBD

What This Means for Horror Fans
The Dead by Daylight x Five Nights at Freddy’s crossover is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated DLCs in the game’s history. With Springtrap’s terrifying presence, Michael Afton’s complex backstory, and Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza’s sinister atmosphere, this chapter is sure to deliver an unforgettable horror experience.
Fans can expect more official details, trailers, and release dates soon, but one thing is certain—the fog is about to get a lot scarier.
