The Dead by Daylight community is buzzing with speculation about the next original killer, set to release in September. According to developers, the new addition will be inspired by Asian folklore—and so it could be specifically the terrifying Krasue, a ghostly figure from Thai mythology.
What is the Krasue?
The Krasue is one of the most infamous spirits in Southeast Asian folklore, often described as a floating woman’s head with her internal organs—such as lungs, heart, and intestines—dangling beneath. Unlike more traditional apparitions, the Krasue is as gruesome as it is haunting, and its unsettling image has made it a staple of Thai horror stories and films.
Legends surrounding the Krasue vary, but most accounts suggest that these spirits are the result of a curse or punishment. In some tales, women are doomed to become Krasue after committing acts of violence, such as murder, in a past life. Other versions blame dark sorcery: practitioners of black magic whose rituals go horribly wrong, separating the head from the body and condemning them to eternal suffering.
Why the Krasue Fits Dead by Daylight
If the rumors prove true, the Krasue could be a natural fit for Dead by Daylight’s roster of killers. The Entity has already drawn on folklore before, but a Krasue-inspired killer would push the game into truly grotesque territory. The concept of a floating head trailing blood-soaked organs aligns perfectly with the franchise’s focus on horror imagery that is both shocking and memorable.
There’s also speculation that the accompanying survivor may hail from Thailand, which would tie the chapter together thematically. A Thai survivor going up against a folkloric spirit from their own culture would mirror past chapters where killer and survivor share a cultural background.
Beyond aesthetics, the Krasue could open up unique gameplay mechanics. Its floating form could allow for eerie movement across the map, or its cursed origins might translate into powers that debilitate survivors in unusual ways.
While nothing has been confirmed, the idea of a Krasue killer has caught the attention of fans for good reason. It embodies the bloody folklore that Dead by Daylight often draws inspiration from and could bring a fresh, terrifying dynamic to the game. Until Behaviour Interactive makes an official announcement, the community will just have to wait—and imagine the horror of facing a floating, organ-draped phantom in the fog.
