Dead by Daylight fans are known for their creativity, but one concept shared on Reddit this week is making waves — literally.
A user posted a detailed idea showing how a shark could work as a killer in Dead by Daylight, complete with mock animations and gameplay mechanics. While Behaviour Interactive has never introduced a killer that requires environmental changes this drastic, the concept has sparked plenty of discussion about whether it could actually happen.
A Killer That Swims?
In the Reddit concept, the creator cleverly sidestepped the massive challenge of making entire Dead by Daylight maps water-based. Instead, they imagined the shark moving constantly within a large puddle of water that travels with it — essentially a mobile zone of water wherever the killer goes.
This makes the idea far more feasible from a game design standpoint, as it wouldn’t require flooding entire maps or creating new water environments. All the shark’s animations are designed with the killer remaining inside this moving puddle, emerging slightly to strike or lunge at Survivors but never leaving the water itself.
It’s a creative workaround that sparked a lot of discussion, as it could allow Behaviour to implement a truly unique killer without having to completely redesign existing maps.
Could It Work in the Game?
Of course, this is just a fan concept — there are major technical hurdles to bringing a water-based killer to Dead by Daylight. The game’s maps and engine are built around land-based movement. Adding a new environmental layer would likely require significant changes to core systems.
Still, the idea has excited many in the community. After all, Behaviour Interactive has recently experimented with more unusual killer mechanics, such as The Knight’s AI-controlled minions or The Xenomorph’s use of tunnels.
Could a shark — or another water-based killer — be next? The game’s Creative Director has previously said that the team is exploring ways to break free of old limitations, especially as talk of a Dead by Daylight 2 continues to swirl.
A Hint of Things to Come?
The popularity of this concept might inspire Behaviour to think bigger about future killers. Fans also speculated that, if Behaviour were to ever release a new map type — perhaps a sinking ship, a dockyard, or an underwater facility — a water-based killer could fit right in.
Until then, it remains a fascinating “what if.” But one thing is clear: Dead by Daylight players are hungry for more creative and unusual killers — even if it means swimming against the current.
