Dead by Daylight continues its streak of unique collaborations, this time diving into the world of Japanese horror manga. Behaviour Interactive has officially announced that an upcoming cosmetic collection will be inspired by Nyaight of The Living Cat, a cult Japanese horror manga that itself draws inspiration from the classic horror film Night of the Living Dead.
While no release date has been confirmed yet for this Dead by Daylight cosmetic collection, the timing is interesting: the manga is also getting an anime adaptation set to premiere on July 6th, 2025. However, the collection will not necessarily drop at the same time as the anime launch.
What Is Nyaight of The Living Cat?
Nyaight of The Living Cat (Japanese: Nyaight of the Living Cat / Nekozombie no Yoru) is a quirky, dark, and surreal horror manga series that imagines a post-apocalyptic world where a strange virus turns humans into… cats. Yes, you read that right — not zombies, but feline versions of themselves.
The manga blends classic zombie apocalypse tropes with a twistedly cute aesthetic. The story follows a lone survivor navigating a world where hordes of mindless cats stalk the streets, hunting down humans to convert them into more cats. The protagonist must evade these “undead” felines while trying to stay sane in a world that has become an eerie feline nightmare.
Inspired by Night of the Living Dead but putting a fresh Japanese horror spin on the concept, Nyaight of The Living Cat has gained a cult following for its unique mix of horror, absurdity, and unexpected emotional depth. The upcoming anime is expected to further boost its popularity globally.
What to Expect in the Dead by Daylight Collaboration
At the moment, this is confirmed to be a cosmetic-only collaboration, not a full chapter with new gameplay content. This means players can expect themed outfits for existing Survivors or Killers, possibly incorporating the eerie and adorable elements of Nyaight of The Living Cat‘s aesthetic.
Given the manga’s premise, fans are speculating that the cosmetics could include:
-
Feline-themed outfits or accessories
-
Masks or headgear that mimic the “infected cat” designs from the manga
-
Cat-related charms or visual effects in the game’s lobby or UI
Behaviour Interactive has not yet revealed which characters will receive these cosmetics, nor has it provided a release window beyond confirming that it will not necessarily align with the anime’s July premiere.
A Sign of More Japanese Horror Collaborations to Come?
This collaboration signals Behaviour Interactive’s continued interest in embracing Japanese horror culture — an area Dead by Daylight has explored before with chapters like All-Kill and The Spirit.
The growing global fascination with Japanese horror, combined with the release of the Nyaight of The Living Cat anime this summer, makes this a smart and fun choice for Dead by Daylight’s ever-expanding roster of crossovers.
For now, all eyes are on Behaviour for the first teaser of this curious collaboration. Will Dead by Daylight Survivors soon be donning creepy cat costumes? Stay tuned.
