Is Pennywise Coming to Dead by Daylight? A Viral Image Reignites the IT Chapter Rumors
A mysterious image circulating online has once again ignited speculation within the Dead by Daylight community: could Pennywise finally be coming to the game?
The image, which began spreading across social media and forums in recent days, appears to show the iconic clown from IT rendered inside the game’s engine. At first glance, it looks convincing enough that many players immediately believed it might be a leaked promotional image or an early teaser for an upcoming chapter.
However, while the image has fueled excitement, there are strong reasons to believe it may not be legitimate.

A Likely AI-Generated Image
Personally, I’m convinced the image is AI-generated.
Modern generative AI tools have become extremely good at mimicking game engines, lighting styles, and promotional artwork. The circulating image shows several subtle inconsistencies typical of AI creations: slightly unnatural lighting, oddly blended textures, and environmental details that don’t quite match the visual language usually used by Behaviour Interactive.
That said, even if the image is fake, it has accomplished one thing: it has reignited one of the longest-running dreams in the Dead by Daylight community.
The arrival of Pennywise from Stephen King’s IT.
A Collaboration Fans (and the Developers) Want
For years, fans have asked for an IT chapter.
Interestingly, it’s not just the community. The game’s director has repeatedly expressed admiration for Stephen King, often mentioning how much he would love to collaborate with the legendary horror author.
Considering Dead by Daylight already features icons like Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, and Ghost Face, Pennywise feels like one of the last major horror legends still missing from the roster.
And if Behaviour Interactive ever manages to secure the license, the potential for a truly terrifying chapter is enormous.
So let’s imagine what a Dead by Daylight: IT Chapter could look like.
Concept: Dead by Daylight – IT Chapter
Killer: Pennywise, The Dancing Clown
Pennywise would be a psychological killer built around fear, illusions, and manipulation.
Killer Power: Deadlights Manifestation
Pennywise feeds on fear.
Power Mechanics:
-
Survivors build a Fear Meter when:
-
Staying near Pennywise
-
Witnessing hallucinations
-
Failing skill checks
-
Being chased for long periods
-
-
At maximum Fear, survivors begin seeing illusions:
-
Fake pallets
-
Fake generators
-
Fake survivors running nearby
-
Active Ability – Deadlights
Pennywise can briefly reveal the Deadlights, stunning nearby survivors and causing them to scream, revealing their location.
High-fear survivors become Exposed for a short time.
This would create a terrifying psychological pressure similar to the paranoia seen in the original story.
Killer Perks
We All Float
When you hook a survivor, all survivors outside your terror radius briefly scream and reveal their location.
Additionally, injured survivors suffer from the Oblivious status effect for several seconds.
Childhood Fear
When a survivor fails a skill check, their aura is revealed for several seconds.
The effect has a cooldown but encourages constant pressure on generators.
Feast on Terror
Each time a survivor screams, gain a stacking bonus to movement speed for a short duration.
This synergizes perfectly with Pennywise’s power.
Survivor: Bill Denbrough
Leader of the Losers’ Club and the emotional heart of IT.
Bill would represent resilience, determination, and leadership.
Survivor Perks
Losers’ Club
When healing or repairing with another survivor, both players gain a speed bonus.
If one of them is downed, the other gains a short burst of haste.
Stand Together
If multiple survivors are within a certain radius, the effects of negative status effects are reduced.
Encourages teamwork against fear-based killers.
Face Your Fear
After escaping a chase, gain a temporary boost to generator repair speed and healing speed.
New Map: Derry – The Sewers
A terrifying underground environment inspired by Pennywise’s lair.
Map Features
-
Narrow sewer tunnels
-
Flooded pathways
-
Rusted maintenance rooms
-
Storm drains connecting different sections
-
Occasional clown laughter echoing through the environment
At the center of the map would be The Well House, leading to Pennywise’s lair where the Deadlights glow faintly in the darkness.
Environmental effects could include:
-
Red balloons drifting through hallways
-
Distant children’s laughter
-
Paper boats floating in sewer water
Why Pennywise Would Be Perfect for Dead by Daylight
Pennywise represents something unique among horror villains.
Unlike most killers, he doesn’t rely purely on brute force. His power comes from psychological terror, manipulation, and the ability to transform fear into reality.
Mechanically, this would allow Behaviour Interactive to experiment with hallucination-based gameplay, something the game has only touched on lightly with killers like The Doctor.
And from a thematic perspective, Pennywise would feel right at home in The Entity’s realm.
Will It Ever Happen?
Right now, the viral image spreading online is most likely not real.
But the renewed speculation shows just how much players want this collaboration.
If Behaviour Interactive ever manages to bring Stephen King’s IT into the game, it could easily become one of the most memorable chapters in Dead by Daylight history.
Until then, fans will keep watching the sewers… just in case a red balloon appears. 🎈
