And since it was released, the community has not been particularly happy with the new contents, which was considered rather lazy and hastily developed, but for those who do not remember, or for those who still did not play Dead by Daylight in that year, I want to remind you of a rather similar episode. Come with me. At the end of 2018, precisely on December 11, a chapter was released that was much criticized by the community, because it was considered, even then, a hasty chapter, with a killer who had a power taken from the animations of the survivors: I am talking about Darkness Among Us, the chapter that brought inside Dead by Daylight The Legion:
The Legion is a killer that has since undergone several changes since release, its power suffered quite a lot of criticism, because it was a simple run comparable to the 'sprint burst' perk of the survivors, and also in terms of design it was very reminiscent of the survivors, since it is a killer with the likeness of a person, with the difference that it wore a mask, which was actually a concept taken from another game of theirs that later failed: Deathgarden, which for those who want to elaborate on what kind of game it was:
Deathgarden in August 2018 did a collaboration with Dead by Daylight allowing two characters in the game, Meg and the Trapper, to get two masks if users bought and owned both games:
And a few months later The Legion was released which was literally a killer in the guise of a survivor with a mask, just like for example Meg with the mask of Deathgarden, and as mentioned above, the power was also highly criticized.
Why am I telling you this then?
For those of you who don't know, the Dead by Daylight team works on three chapters at the same time, of which the workload is determined according to the priority of each chapter: if it is content that will be released soon, there will be more people working on it; if it is instead a chapter that will be released in the next 6/9 months, it will have a lower priority and therefore fewer people working on it.
When Darkness Among Us came out, among the many criticisms made, there was one that agreed with everyone: 'they made the Ghostface chapter, without having the Ghostface license.'
This is because indeed, that chapter was conceptually identical to the lore of the Scream franchise, a group of guys wearing masks to sow terror in the city: in the Scream movies/TV series, the killers are always more than one, and they always wear masks.
The discontent of that chapter then was twofold, because not only had a conceptually lazy chapter been released for the reasons listed above, but it was also a chapter that could have been, according to fans, the Ghostface chapter, but for some reason had not been.
A few months later, Ghost Face is actually released within the game, making, at least to me, think that The Legion was a concept based just on Ghost Face that they were probably already working on and were perhaps inspired by to release their own original version of that killer, also because by doing so they could exploit that content in any way they wanted, even to release any kind of skins, unlike Ghost Face which being a licensed killer, you have to respect agreements and the original concept.
Does that remind you of anything?
Moreover, also at that time it happened that before the release of the collaboration with Ghost Face a minor collaboration was done, in that case it was with Ash Williams, in this case it will be with Alice In Wonderland:
Let's go back to the present day.
As mentioned before, the PTB of the new chapter of Dead by Daylight was recently released, which features a killer that does not convince the community and has so many points in common with a licensed killer: Predator.
The Skull Merchant, that is the name of Dead by Daylight's new killer, has so many coincidences with Predator that even people think that this was supposed to be a licensed chapter, but that they couldn't come to an agreement, and so it has become an original content on which perhaps a legendary Predator skin will be released in the future.
Maybe this will be the case, or maybe it's simply happening as it did a few years ago: they are actually working on a chapter on Predator for the June anniversary (I remind you that anniversary chapters lately have always been licensed except for last year where in fact people were rather disappointed) and they took advantage of the concept they were already working on to release an original killer.
Even the map of this chapter is something rather strange, for the first time in fact, The Skull Merchant is a chapter that is released with a 'change' within an existing map, such as Fortnite does when it expands the map with new content.
The peculiar thing is that the new 'part of the map' released within this chapter, is very reminiscent of an area present in the game Predator Hunting Grounds, and for those who have played it like me, exploring The Hunting Camp (yes, even the word 'hunting' is something related to Predator, in this case just the game I’m talking about, as you can see now) within Dead by Daylight, or even just noticing some details of the camp within the trailer with which they presented the new chapter, it will have reminded them a map within the Predator game, there are in fact cointainers and a base of operations with several stairs to climb, just like within the Predator game:
Not only that, there are many other coincidences:
- The Skull Merchant is the name of the new killer, which is also a pretty stark description of the Predator, who is literally a collector of the skulls of the beings he kills;
- The Skull Merchant has a power based on drones in the shape of skulls that scan the area, which as mentioned earlier, are things very much related to the Predator, not only the skulls themselves, but also the power to scan, just like the Predator's view when scanning an area for beings to kill;
- The Skull Merchant's weapon is a claw that is literally the Predator's weapon;
- Within the Chapter, in addition to the killer there are two survivors who are brothers, just like Naru and Taabe within the last Predator movie: Prey;
- It is the first original chapter to have two survivors, usually only licensed chapters had two survivors, this prompts the idea in fans that perhaps it was actually a Predator chapter that later became original, or as mentioned above, it is inspired by the future Predator chapter that will also have two survivors;
- The eye of The Skull Merchant is covered, which is very reminiscent of the Predator's IR sensor:
The Killer's Mori is very reminiscent of the Predator kills with him becoming invisible and killing from behind without being seen:

- Within the HUD of Dead by Daylight, the survivors afflicted with the power of The Skull Merchant have a triangle-shaped symbol around their icon that is very reminiscent of the Predator POV when analyzing something, plus the triangle shape is also present in the teaser:
There are so many coincidences between the two products, and I had told you about a collaboration between Predator and Dead by Daylight back in 2021, when Prey was announced:
And as I say in that article:
Behaviour Interactive always listens to the community, for example Silent Hill and Resident Evil were two of the most requested collaborations, and in fact they both finally arrived.
In addition, Game Director Mathieu Cote said that thanks to the success of the game, now many more companies want to collaborate with them, and Disney has already hinted that he has no problem collaborating with video games, for example Predator arrived also on Fortnite.
I remind you that within the survey I am talking about, Predator was along with other licenses that then actually came within the game, just like the recently mentioned Silent Hill and Resident Evil.
Probably Predator will be the new licensed killer within Dead by Daylight to celebrate the game's seventh anniversary, if so, would you like it?
