RUMOR: Dead by Daylight Prepares to Welcome Death Note into the Fog
It’s been a particularly exciting few days within the Dead by Daylight community. Following the announcement of Jason Voorhees and the ongoing rumors surrounding upcoming cosmetic variants for him—including the heavily discussed Savini Jason skin—another major speculation has begun gaining momentum.
After the recent buzz around Tokyo Ghoul, a further high-profile anime collaboration is reportedly in development. This time, Death Note could be the next major crossover coming to the Fog, potentially evolving into a full chapter rather than just a cosmetic collection.
From cosmetic pack to full chapter
According to these rumors, the initial concept for the Death Note crossover was relatively modest—bundled outfits and thematic items inspired by the series. However, after the success and player engagement surrounding the Tokyo Ghoul chapter , Behaviour Interactive reportedly reconsidered the scope of future anime tie-ins.
The idea is that if anime-themed cosmetics and content can drive strong engagement, expanding them into full chapters becomes a more attractive direction for the game’s long-term content strategy. In this context, the Death Note project allegedly shifted from a cosmetic pack into a full chapter concept.
What Death Note is
Death Note is a psychological thriller manga and anime created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. The story follows Light Yagami, a brilliant but disillusioned student who discovers a supernatural notebook called the “Death Note.”
The notebook allows its user to kill anyone simply by writing their name in it, as long as they know the person’s face. Light uses it to enact what he believes is a form of justice, taking on the alias “Kira,” while being pursued by the mysterious detective known as L. The series explores themes of morality, power, justice, and corruption, becoming one of the most influential modern anime franchises worldwide.
What Tokyo Ghoul is
Tokyo Ghoul is a dark fantasy horror series set in a world where flesh-eating ghouls live hidden among humans. The story follows Ken Kaneki, a college student who becomes half-ghoul after a life-saving organ transplant from one of these creatures.
Forced to navigate both human society and ghoul society, Kaneki struggles with identity, survival, and morality. The series is known for its intense psychological horror elements, brutal combat, and emotional storytelling, making it a natural fit for crossover speculation with horror titles like Dead by Daylight.
The alleged Killer: Ryuk enters the Fog
One of the most discussed rumors is that the Killer in this supposed chapter would be Ryuk, the Shinigami who originally drops the Death Note into the human world out of boredom.
In this interpretation, Ryuk would act as the supernatural force within the Trial, possibly using abilities tied to fate manipulation, indirect kills, or map-wide pressure mechanics reflecting the inevitability of death written in the notebook.
Light Yagami’s role in the chapter
Interestingly, rumors also suggest that Light Yagami could be involved in the chapter in a way similar to how Charles Lee Ray is integrated into the Chucky chapter in Dead by Daylight.
In the Chucky chapter, Charles Lee Ray exists as the human soul behind the doll, providing voice lines, personality, and narrative context even when the Killer is physically the doll itself. Similarly, speculation suggests Light could function as a narrative presence tied to Ryuk—perhaps through voice lines, Mori animations, or environmental storytelling—without necessarily being the physical Killer in Trials.
This duality would fit Dead by Daylight’s tendency to blend iconic horror entities with their human origins, enriching the lore while keeping gameplay focused on the main antagonist.
Conclusion
For now, the Death Note chapter in Dead by Daylight remains unconfirmed and should be treated as speculation. Still, the idea has gained traction due to the popularity of both franchises and the success of recent crossover content in the game.
If Behaviour Interactive continues expanding anime collaborations into full chapters, a Death Note adaptation—especially one featuring Ryuk and Light Yagami in some form—would certainly be one of the most intriguing and controversial additions to the Fog
