A recent interview with Dead by Daylight’s Head of Partnerships, Mathieu Côté, has reignited the community’s excitement about an upcoming licensed collaboration. When asked directly about new collaborations with already existing licenses, Côté replied:
“Stay tuned, I don’t have a better answer than that.”
This wasn’t a vague tease — it was a clear confirmation that Behaviour Interactive is preparing a new crossover chapter based on an existing licensed property.
According to internal reports and datamined information circulating in the DBD community, the next licensed chapter will feature one Killer and two Survivors, following the format of large-scale releases like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. It was originally scheduled for November, but has since been delayed to January, likely for marketing alignment and polish.
Why the clues point to Stranger Things: Vecna
Among fans and insiders alike, the leading theory is that this mysterious licensed chapter will mark the long-awaited return of Stranger Things — this time featuring Vecna as the new Killer, alongside two new Survivors from the show’s later seasons.
The Stranger Things license has already been renewed
In 2023, Behaviour Interactive re-established its partnership with Netflix, allowing all previously removed Stranger Things content — the Demogorgon, Hawkins map, and Survivors Nancy Wheeler and Steve Harrington — to return to the game. This proves that the Stranger Things license is not only active again, but also open to expansion.Perfect timing with the show’s final season
The Stranger Things final season is set to debut in 2025, and Behaviour has historically tied its big crossovers to pop-culture peaks. A January DBD chapter would coincide perfectly with renewed interest in the series — a marketing synergy that both Behaviour and Netflix would likely capitalize on.
Vecna fits perfectly as a DBD Killer
The terrifying antagonist from Season 4, Vecna, would bring new and unique mechanics to Dead by Daylight. Potential powers could include:Psychic domination, allowing him to trap or control survivors’ minds
Illusion or hallucination mechanics, distorting survivor vision or altering their surroundings
Reality manipulation, shifting parts of the map into the Upside Down
Corruption-based abilities, similar to a spreading curse or psychic tether
These mechanics would make Vecna distinct from any other existing Killer — and certainly far from being a simple skin of the Dungeons & Dragons version of Vecna.
Two new Survivors likely to join the chapter
Behaviour has already confirmed that the next licensed chapter will feature two Survivors. The most likely candidates, based on fan discussion and narrative potential, are:Robin Buckley, whose intelligence and resourcefulness could translate into investigative or stealth-oriented perks.
Eddie Munson, a beloved cult character with strong thematic ties to horror and rebellion, who could embody resilience-based or distraction-based abilities.
These two additions would complement the existing Stranger Things roster, while giving fans fresh characters connected to the show’s later seasons.
The Vecna question — distinct from Dungeons & Dragons
In a previous discussion, Behaviour representatives clarified that Netflix’s Vecna and Dungeons & Dragons’ Vecna are two separate entities. This distinction means there are no legal or thematic barriers preventing Stranger Things’ Vecna from joining the Fog.
It also confirms that the Netflix version could be developed as a fully unique Killer, complete with his own lore, animations, and voice — rather than as a cosmetic adaptation of the D&D version already present in Dead by Daylight.
Looking ahead
With the chapter confirmed to include one Killer and two Survivors, the timing shifted to January, and Mathieu Côté’s clear “stay tuned” hint confirming the existence of a new licensed collaboration, all signs point toward something big on the horizon.
While Behaviour Interactive has yet to make an official announcement, the Dead by Daylight community is convinced: Vecna is coming.
The only question that remains is how soon the Fog will open to the Upside Down once again.
