A new rumor has started circulating in the gaming community suggesting that Dead by Daylight and Capcom may be planning another major collaboration for 2026 — this time centered around Resident Evil Requiem, the upcoming Resident Evil 9. According to unconfirmed sources, the main protagonist of Requiem could be introduced as a playable Survivor in Behaviour Interactive’s asymmetrical horror game, along with a brand-new 2v8 event inspired by the Resident Evil universe.
A New Resident Evil Chapter for DBD in 2026?
If true, this would mark yet another high-profile crossover between Dead by Daylight and Capcom, following past successful collaborations that brought in characters like Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Nemesis, Wesker, and Ada Wong. The twist this time? The rumored 2026 chapter would celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise, which originally debuted in 1996.
Just like this year’s special 2v8 Resident Evil event — which saw both Nemesis and Wesker team up as dual killers — the 2026 edition is said to expand on that idea with a brand-new scenario, enemies, and mechanics drawn directly from Resident Evil Requiem.
Who Is the Requiem Protagonist?
Resident Evil Requiem, often referred to as Resident Evil 9, was officially unveiled during Summer Game Fest 2025 with a chilling cinematic teaser that confirmed its place as the final chapter of the Winters saga. The game is rumored to follow a new protagonist — a younger agent named Grace Ashcroft, whose background ties closely with the BSAA and remnants of Blue Umbrella.
While Capcom hasn’t confirmed Grace Ashcroft as the playable lead, several insiders and early merchandise leaks point toward her as the franchise’s new face moving forward. In Dead by Daylight, she would likely fill a Survivor role, continuing Behaviour’s tradition of including both heroes and villains in its licensed content.
What This Could Mean for DBD
The 2v8 mode was introduced in 2023 and expanded in 2024 and 2025 as a way to refresh Dead by Daylight’s gameplay loop. This year’s event featuring Nemesis and Wesker was a fan favorite, and Behaviour seems committed to making it an annual celebration for major franchises.
With Requiem scheduled for early 2026, the timing would be perfect for another 2v8 Resident Evil event — this time possibly introducing new villains, such as a Requiem-exclusive BOW, alongside Grace Ashcroft as the new Survivor.
There is currently no official confirmation from either Behaviour Interactive or Capcom, but with the 30th anniversary approaching and Requiem building hype, this crossover makes a lot of sense.
Stay tuned for more updates as we wait to see if Resident Evil will once again make its terrifying mark on the world of Dead by Daylight — this time, with the future of the franchise in tow.
