In a move that has left much of the community disheartened, Gun Interactive has officially announced that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, the asymmetrical multiplayer horror game based on the iconic 1974 film, will no longer receive new content, balance updates, or even AI bots—despite widespread anticipation for future DLC and features.

This announcement, delivered through an emotional press release, marks the end of what many hoped would be a long-running, content-rich experience. The studio confirmed that following the next patch in May, there will be no further support or updates for the game, aside from technical adjustments like the transition to peer-to-peer matchmaking.

A Passion Project Comes to a Close

In their statement, Gun Interactive emphasized just how much the project meant to them:

“Only a couple of years ago, if you had asked anyone at Gun what their dream project would be… you’d have heard The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. A foundational film for any horror fan—innovative, indie, and artistic—Gun brought the same spirit to making video games.”

They expressed pride in having reached what they believe is the full potential of the game:

“From the start, we had a clear and concise vision. We wanted to push the boundaries of asymmetrical multiplayer horror, shine a light on this iconic film for new generations, and immerse players in the macabre world of Muerto County. We believe we’ve achieved that.”

Indeed, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre featured an ambitious mix of new and legacy content, including original stories like that of Maria Flores and horror icons such as Kane Hodder and Barbara Crampton. The studio sought to honor the 1974 classic by collaborating closely with Kim Henkel and reviving beloved characters from the franchise.

No More DLC or Bug Fixes — And No Bots

What has truly frustrated fans is the confirmation that not only will there be no new content, but there will also be no implementation of bots. This means that once the player base dwindles, enjoying the game with friends may become difficult or even impossible—an issue already seen in other multiplayer titles that lacked long-term support tools.

“There will be no further DLC, balance updates, or bug fixes beyond the May patch,” the developers confirmed. “We will, however, continue with technical patches to assist the transition to peer-to-peer matchmaking.”

Despite this, the game will remain available for purchase and download on all platforms, and the community team will continue engaging with fans.

Creative Vision or Missed Opportunity?

Gun Interactive emphasized that this decision is not the result of financial issues or lack of passion but rather the conclusion of what they see as a creatively complete vision:

“As a creative studio, it’s critical to communicate that we brought this vision to its natural creative conclusion. We’re a tight-knit group of horror fans and artists constantly working to deliver cinematic experiences.”

Yet for many players, the absence of planned bots or further updates feels like a missed opportunity—especially given the game’s potential and dedicated fanbase.

What’s Next for Gun Interactive?

While the future of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre may now be set in stone, Gun teased new projects on the horizon:

“What’s next for Gun? …STAY TUNED.”

One thing is clear: despite the disappointment surrounding this announcement, the studio’s love for the horror genre remains strong. And while the chainsaw may be silent for now, fans will undoubtedly be watching closely to see what Gun Interactive has in store next.
