August 18, 2023 saw the release on all platforms, including Xbox Game Pass, of the new asymmetric multiplayer horror game by Gun Media, which after working on the ill-fated Friday The 13th: The Game decided to set out again to develop a horror video game by managing to license the Leatherface saga and developing a video game that revolutionizes the standards of the genre by offering a stealth-based 3vs4 with gameplay that allows for different approaches and a balance that allows for fun both playing with one of the Family, and playing as a Victim.

If you add to all this that the video game is in collaboration with Kim Henkel, the writer of the first film in the saga, and that new killers will be added just thanks to his collaboration with the development team (two are already available) and that it is possible to play in cross-play between the various platforms, you will also understand why the game is pleasing and convincing all those who are trying it out, with the numbers highlighting how many people have decided to take a ride in Texas these days, that is, more than a million players.

About the collaboration with Kim Henkel:
'Working with Kim Henkel has obviously been incredible. He has placed an extreme amount of trust in our team to deliver an experience that matches the tone and authenticity of the legendary film he helped create all those years ago. In order to accomplish this task we felt it was paramount to focus on the one key aspect that separates Texas from most any other horror franchise in existence. This is of course the Slaughter family itself. You see, Texas doesn't feature a singular killer. Texas is different. Texas is all about family. The Cook, the Hitchhiker, and Leatherface all have specific jobs to do and roles to play. Without each other, the family simply couldn't exist and operate efficiently for very long. So when it comes to creating a multiplayer horror experience based on this film, we knew the family dynamic had to be a top priority.

How they interact, how they work together, and how they all have specific strengths and weaknesses would be the basis of the killer experience. It was quickly apparent that we would need additional family members in order to create the type of team-based multiplayer experience we were after. As interesting as The Cook, Hitchhiker, and Leatherface are, three killers simply wouldn't be enough to sustain the game for long periods of time. We needed more. Luckily, Kim Henkel came through again to help us solve this issue. Kim had several ideas for additional characters that never made it into the 1974 film, but ultimately he allowed us to create new Slaughter family members on our own. This level of trust meant the world to me. I knew each new family member had to be unique and memorable, while at the same time looking like they belonged. To put it simply, they needed to stand out, but not in a negative way.

While I can't discuss specific character details, I can say a considerable amount of time and work went into crafting each of the new killers. Each one took well over a year from start to finish, and it's an aspect of the game that myself and the team is quite proud of.''

In addition, clues were found within the Tech Test game files regarding a possible collaboration with Stranger Things:

Finally, new content was announced coming as cosmetics, modes, and all in collaboration with partners who will help in the development of the game and also in the creation of the trailers and cinematics within the game:
We want to welcome our community to our new development partners, Black Tower Studios, for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre! In order to showcase what this means to players, we will be sharing our press release below. This transition is aimed to be as smooth as possible and to not impact our players. “Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham are proud of the co-development for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Sumo Nottingham and their team are working hand-in-hand to pass the torch to Black Tower Studios for the future development of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Both teams at Sumo Nottingham and Gun Interactive are on-boarding Black Tower Studios to the project and we are excited for this partnership to help usher in new content and support. Over the course of the past month, Black Tower Studios has been working alongside Sumo to prepare for their transition to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Gun Interactive and Black Tower Studios have had previous history with co-development where collaboration and transparency are key pillars for both studios. Black Tower Studios is an amazing group of developers that have also worked on titles such as Predator Hunting Grounds, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

We are excited to welcome their talented team coming together to continue bringing the best to asymmetrical horror, as they created the Jarvis House and Pinehurst maps on Friday the 13th: The Game, as well as provided support. A number of other partners will be joining forces with Gun such as Art Bully Productions for future cosmetics for all characters, Testronic Labs on QA testing, Saturday Morning Cereal for all game trailers and assisting in in-game cinematics, and Odd Gentleman, the studio behind Museum Mode as well as possible future modes. These teams are all dedicated to the vision for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre as the game continues to evolve and expand.“
